As Ontario enters another 30 days of lockdown (ugh), we wait for vaccines to become even wider spread through the population. We're getting there in Canada. My friends in Israel have been doing amazing work with over 69% of their population fully vaccinated - see Israel, and friends in the US are vaccinating like mad too, and have 18%
fully vaccinated with about a 1/3 having one dose - see U.S.. Canada had a slow start (since we hadn't been producing the vaccines domestically - yet), but we're slowly making ground, and have about 12% with one dose, and about 2% fully vaccinated. See Canada . We're making progress. Slowly.
While we wait for the numbers of those vaccinated to rise, the pent up demand is spilling over to making travel plans for 2022 and 2023 for sure (and please let me know how I can help you there), but - we're starting to see staycations take on even more prominence than before. And while you might not want to travel over these next 30 days, the prospect of having a getaway (even a short one) booked as we come out of lockdown helps raise spirits.

From my recent client zoom with Neil Dudley of AMAWaterways, I know that with re-accommodating 2020 and 2021 suspensions, 2022 is already 62% SOLD OUT, and 2023 is already 18% sold out.
Smaller ships (with an average of 160 in pre-pandemic times) with new health and safety protocols, and slow-paced and intimate sailing through magnificent landscapes, river cruising will become even more popular than it was previously. And AMAWaterways has experience in doing river cruising throughout the pandemic - they sailed from July-November in Germany for German clients, and have all the safety and health protocols already tested and in place.
I was on a zoom call with Gary Murphy, one of the co-owners of AMAWaterways this week - and Gary put it succinctly. The towns and villages are there because the river was there. And the river cruising sails through the heart of the country. There are lots of activities if you want to be active (including yoga, cycling, etc) - but - you can also choose to be completely sedentary if you wish.

To return to Canada, you need another test to board the return flight, and Canada has a mandatory hotel quarantine test/ stay.
World Travel & Tourism Council - CoVid Losses

The World Travel & Tourism Council’s annual Economic Impact Report (EIR) today reveals the full devastating impact of COVID-19 had on the global Travel & Tourism sector last year, which suffered a massive loss of almost US$4.5 trillion.
The annual EIR from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), which represents the global Travel & Tourism private sector, shows the sector’s contribution to GDP dropped a staggering 49.1%, this compared to the overall global economy which dropped by just 3.7% last year.
Vast losses run up during 2020, paint the first full picture of a sector struggling to survive in the face of crippling travel restrictions and unnecessary quarantines, which continue to threaten the urgent recovery of the world economy.
Altogether, the sector’s contribution to global GDP plummeted to US$4.7 trillion in 2020 (5.5% of the global economy), from nearly US$9.2 trillion the previous year (10.4%).
