Oh, Canada!
What a year 2020 has turned out to be. Imagine if someone had told you in January that we'd be living through this wild ride. You'd never have believed them.
Now, we approach a Canada Day without festivities on Parliament Hill, or fireworks. And we all are trying to find a way to celebrate life, and maybe sneak in a little holiday or two.
Since we're not travelling much this year, though - I'm also encouraging clients still to think about taking that bigger trip next year - 2021 will be bucket list time! (See my river cruise article below.) And - you likely will have two year's worth of vacation money to spend. Let's get planning!
This year is the year to visit Canada. And why not? We live in a fantastic country. Did you know that tourists see more of Canada than we typically do? Not many take the time to see their own backyard, and there's nothing like a global pandemic to make us stay close.
Destination Canada is keeping track of where we can visit at home with updates every two weeks on provincial travel restrictions. This coming week's update should have info about the new Atlantic Canada bubble, but here is the June 16th update.
Fairmont hotels across Canada are encouraging clients to visit with a "second night free" promo.
The ShangriLa Toronto has a third night free.
Manoir Hovey in Quebec in the Eastern Townships are welcoming you.
Arctic Kingdom and Weber Arctic are inviting you to come visit.
And I have two special offers with Natural Habitat for visiting Canada too.

This Tuesday, June 30th at 5 pm, we're right ahead of Canada, so I'll defer supplier partner meetings for after the holiday, and host one myself.
So, this Tuesday at 5 pm, I'll offer my "Beginner's Guide to River Cruising" session.
Join Sheila of Lush Life Travel online Tuesday at 5 pm for a Travel Tuesday zoom call - if you could take only ONE more trip.

Sheila will also give an overview of her "Beginner's Guide to River Cruising." Attendees will also receive a complimentary copy of Sheila's e-book.

River cruising will become even more popular than it has been in the past. Here's a news article that shows bookings are up 30% in 2021.
River Cruising Sees 30% Year-Over-Year Increase For 2021
And there's no wonder with the largest river cruise ship carrying only 190 people. Why the popularity already in booking? There's already a pent up demand to travel. And folks are looking at 2021 for bookings. So, why not travel on smaller ships, with smaller crowds, have intimate experiences, and get off the ship every day in a small historic port.
AMA Waterways has told me they are already 70% out for 2021. Other cruise lines are seeing similar sales.
So, in this week's river cruise corner, I'll share details about rivers to inspire you. We've already looked at Upper Danube. So, let's look at Lower Danube.
Let me know if you have questions and/or would like to learn more.
LOWER DANUBE RIVER:
At first glance, the countries of Eastern Europe that lie along the Lower Danube might seem like an unusual choice for a vacation. More than 20 years after the fall of communism, the economies have still not stabilized in many former Eastern bloc nations, as evidenced by high unemployment, dwindling population and fluctuating currencies. Scars from internal wars in the now-splintered Yugoslavia can be seen in bullet holes and burned out buildings. Only Budapest boasts the typical
skyline of castles and cathedrals that most tourists come to Europe to see.
Yet life is far from gray in this part of the world. Wander the pedestrian-only areas in Belgrade, and take in the vibrant Serbian cafe culture. Look past the Soviet-style apartment buildings in Bulgaria, and appreciate some of the few pieces of communist sculpture that still stand. Gawk at gorgeous frescoes within Romania's Orthodox churches and monasteries, even as you marvel at the people's resilience. And pencil in several days to explore the beautiful 19th-century architecture and
definitively 21st-century nightlife of Budapest.
Above all, be prepared to learn. After a Lower Danube cruise, you can't help leaving Eastern Europe with increased knowledge of the region's tumultuous past -- and understanding more of its challenges going forward.
