1. Healthy Living & Self-Care
|
This week, I was proud to be a repeat guest on the podcast “Thanks for Asking”, hosted by my inspirational friend, Helen Nodland of Virtuoso Travel . Helen is well known in the travel industry, and I was honoured to be a
guest on her highly touted industry podcast. After 2 years of CoVid virtual meetings with Helen, I’m looking forward to an in-person toast when we see each other in Vegas at Virtuoso Travel Week next month.
Travel is indeed back.
And one of the biggest trends I'm seeing in my business is wellness travel.
I'm not a fan of industry jargon however. I usually get glazed over eyes from clients if I tell them "wellness travel" is the latest and greatest trend. But, if I tell people that "wellness travel" just means focusing on "healthy living" as well as "self-care," and finding ways to incorporate that in your travel as the world re-opens, it resonates.
There are CoVid jokes (coping mechanisms, of course - we all know how serious this disease is) - such as CoVid19 means you gained 19 pounds during the pandemic. Or - there's also the four stages of the pandemic - where you can become a Monk, a Hunk, a Chunk, or a Drunk. Maybe all four at one point or another?
But as we re-emerge from the pandemic, and try to slough off the 19 pounds along with the rest of CoVid19, we are reclaiming our power too.
Many of my clients are looking at their own wellness, and are ready to embrace more healthy living and self-care.

The issues with air are continuing. Ugh. After 2+ brutal years in the travel industry, I'm keen for things to settle down. (And wouldn't it be nice if prices weren't 3x what we might have normally expected too?)
But the 2+ years of the travel industry being brutalized with little to no revenue also had planes sitting idle while incurring huge maintenance costs, and pilots retiring (by choice or by encouragement). Of course, that staffing impact of retirement or termination or furlough moved through every segment of the travel and hospitality sector - maintenance crews, baggage handlers, gate and reservation
agents, hotel staff, cruise staff, etc. It's been a bumpy ride. We knew climbing back out of the subterranean world to get the skies again had to bring a lot of turbulence. But - maybe not as much turbulence we're currently seeing.
The travel world also got hit with skyrocketing demand, limited resources, and staffing shortages - along with continually changing government rules and regulations, morphing exit and entry requirements, a devastating war in Ukraine, increasing fuel costs, inflation, climate events and a heat wave. Monkeypox, please - take a number.
Remember, if you're travelling this summer, please pack your patience - and please just take a carry on.

4. The Body Holiday in St. Lucia
|
I now have group rates for clients. I’ve now had to go directly through the hotel, rather than book as a package with Air Canada Vacations, etc. (in that case, would have had air, transfers and all inclusive hotel wrapped in), because ACV could not
get the solo room rates, and could not get the Virtuoso perks I get (as a Virtuoso travel advisor) if I book directly with the hotel.
Kindly note, I’ve had to move the dates to get a number of rooms available at the group rate (given limited availability in January). So, dates are now Jan.29-Feb.5.23. 7-nights.
As my partners at the resort have noted: Of course , it is an excellent time to be on island as weather is beyond sublime at that time of year with excellent sunshine in conjunction with Tradewinds cooling effect.
You can watch the presentation with Randall Jackson of The Body Holiday St. Lucia above that talks all about visiting St. Lucia, and this fantastic wellness getaway at The Body Holiday on a recent Travel Tuesday.
