1. Christmas Markets River Cruises
|
Hey there. Thinking of a river cruise to hit the European Christmas Markets this year? Ordinarily, I'd say you're too late - most space is gone. Let's look at 2024 or 2025. (And - I can still help with that if you want to plan!) But - I learned of some openings and possibilities with AMA Waterways this week for Christmas 2023 - where there has been very little space when I was checking for clients. So, I thought I'd share. Let me know
if you're tempted. While space is available now, it won't hang around for long. I'm referencing some promos below, but do kindly note they are tied to occupancy, and a promo for a specific date or route can be withdrawn once the set number of cabins (say 20%
of the ship) is sold. 1.) Christmas Magna on the Danube - sailing Dec.17-24, 2023 with option for 3 nights pre-cruise in Prague, and 2 nights post-cruise in Budapest (spend Christmas in Budapest) after a 7 night sailing from Vilshofen to Budapest.
This sailing is currently 20% off, and offers a combinable promo of fixed rate air plus for $1099/p cad or $899/p usd. 2.) Rhine Castles & Swiss Alps - sailing Dec.18-25, with option for 3 nights pre-cruise in Lake Como, and 2 nights
post-cruise in Amsterdam after sailing from Basel to Amsterdam. This sailing is currently 20% off, and offers a combinable promo of fixed rate air plus for $1099/p cad or $899/p usd. 3.) Medieval Treasures - sailing November 21.23 as the Christmas
markets are beginning to open, with option for 4 nights pre-cruise in Switzerland (Zurich and Lucerne), and 3 nights post-cruise in Prague after sailing from Basel to Nuremberg. This sailing is currently 20% off, and offers a combinable promo of fixed rate air plus for $1099/p cad or $899/p usd. 4.) Colors of Provence - sailing dates of both November 30.23 and December 14.23 . France does not do the traditional Christmas markets of Germany and Austria, but all the cities are decorated for Christmas. There's an option to do 3 nights pre-cruise in Barcelona, with 3 nights post-cruise in Paris after sailing from Arles to Lyon. The Nov.20.23 date offers 2400/ stateroom off. The Dec.14.23 date is currently 20% off, and offers a
combinable promo of fixed rate air plus for $1099/p cad or $899/p usd. 5.) Gems of South East Europe - sailing dates of November 17.23, December 4,23, and December 18.23 There is an option to do a pre and post cruise in Transylvania, Turkey,
and/or Budapest as you sail from Hungary to Romania. These sailings off 2400/stateroom off. Let me know if you'd like to go!

2. River Cruise Corner - Italy By River Cruise I was recently interviewed by TravelWeek publication in Canada for booking tips on visiting Italy this year. Of course, Italy is inordinately busy - and expensive. Why not take a river cruise to Italy? Here's the article quote: Another Ontario-based travel advisor, Lush Life Travel owner Sheila Gallant-Halloran, sends a lot of clients to Italy. She shared her tips with Travelweek. “Costs are much higher than pre-pandemic, with normal four stars pricing at five star levels; and five star hotels really at a premium,” she says. “There is little availability. Some of my clients – solo ladies
especially – have opted for organized and escorted touring on motorcoaches. Others might do an Italy-intensive cruise,” such as Azamara, or maybe Uniworld’s Venice Lagoon cruise, she says. Gallant-Halloran adds that she’s been “steering more clients towards customized trips [in Italy] with private tour guides, which is the only way to do it this summer. Even still, some of my normal ‘go to’ DMC
partners were so busy with demand outstripping their resource supply/ ability to work on the trips that they weren’t even accepting Italy enquiries for the past quarter plus – or they [stipulated] a very high minimum spend.” She sums it up: “Italy is still Italy – it’s
beautiful. But if you go, pack your patience because the lines will be long. And if you haven’t already hired a private guide, and still have the opportunity to find one, do it.” And let me know if you'd like to do a river cruise on the river Po, and/or the Venice lagoon with Uniworld River cruises. It's a
fantastic option - especially this year. 3. Adventure Corner - Mandarin Oriental Costa Navarino This week, part of my continuous learning, and keeping up-to-date with my travel partners around the world was to have a training with the Mandarin Oriental hotels. I learned about their brand new Mandarin Oriental hotel that is opening in Greece on August 15.23.
This beautiful new hotel opening offers beach, golf, villas, and more. Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino, the Group’s first property in Greece, is opening in Summer 2023 and is now accepting reservations. Nestled on the southwest
coast of the Peloponnese, one of the most unspoiled and breathtaking landscapes in the Mediterranean, this beachfront resort will offer a unique experience of unparalleled Greek beauty along with the legendary service for which the brand is renowned. and Soak up spectacular views and savour a leisurely lunch or snack from the comfort of your luxurious sun lounger or private
cabana. With its rich Messenian history, long beaches, and dramatic landscapes, Costa Navarino offers the perfect relaxing getaway. Ormos Beach Club stands out with its unique location on the picturesque Navarino Bay, and its fantastic, relaxed vibe. Enjoy light dishes and refreshing cocktails, without ever having to leave the beach. As adults unwind and indulge in endless possibilities for relaxation, fun and adventure, younger guests can be entertained with
a wide range of creative activities. Want to explore? From adrenaline-fuelled excursions to cultural experiences, water sports, golf, beach yoga, rock climbing, tennis and much more, we can help you create your
perfect holiday, as relaxing or as action-packed as you’d like it to be. https://www.mandarinoriental.com/en/costa-navarino/messenia/explore The above picture was posted @withregram • @mo_costanavarino Messenia: A destination fusing rugged charm and the sea’s allure. A visit to the little island of Sfaktiria is sure to excite any lover of rocky landscapes and refreshing sea dips away from the
crowds. And yes, I'm a Mandarin Oriental Fan Club member - so I can VIP you. https://lushlife.ca/mandarin-oriental-fan-club/
Lemme know if you wanna go! 4. Wellness - "Hi, Barbie!" Who has gone to see the movie, “Barbie?” We just went with our daughter, Ceili (her 2nd time) - it was a really ‘over the top’ movie, totally ‘campy’ fun . But, I really liked it! The “Barbie” movie takes ‘head on’ all the old stereotypes (so you feel like you’re “in” on the outrage/ joke about the plastic, and the physical stereotypes, etc.), and all the negative things. Then, they really turn the stereotypes on their ears. And there were lots of throwback references along the way to old versions of Barbie (hello, Midge.),
etc. I was surprised by just how funny a movie it was. And it’s kinda cool with references/ homage to Kubrick, plus all the differences between Barbie land and Real world (not just the patriarchy, but also the director’s filmmaking and
camera choices). It addresses power, gender roles, and how hard it is to be woman - and really becomes a tale about female empowerment. Turn off your inner critic, and just go - and enjoy. Bring a bit of pink fun to your day. And yes, I said pink. If you go, make sure wear something pink! The theatre was full of people wearing pink - we even saw guys in pink tuxedos. It's a little funny to be standing in line to buy popcorn, and just looking at everyone decked out in various shades of pink. (If you go see the movie “Oppenheimer,” apparently everyone wears black.) Be prepared to be addressed with lots of “hi, Barbie” greetings on the way out of the movie too. Can't get enough? Barbie is hitting the world of travel too! We're getting hotel suites decorated for Barbie - the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth in Montreal is getting in on the Barbie fun. And if you're a film buff, and into the mechanics and choices involved in film-making, here's a great interview with the female director, Great Gerwig, too - her
"Barbie" movie broke records as the biggest money- making opening for a female director in history! https://youtu.be/JleQyofRtjs "Hi, Barbie!"
