1. Discover Dubai I
like to share different destinations with my clients who are considering bucket list trips. So this week, I thought I'd feature a destination that I don't believe I'd featured in a prior newsletter. And that destination is Dubai. Memories are waiting to be
made. Let me know if Dubai is on your bucket list. From decadent luxury to family fun, Dubai has surprises for days. Spend a day or a week and shop at exquisite malls, take in the view from Burj Khalifa, seek adventure in the mountain town of Hatta, and explore The Pointe’s waterside dining and entertainment. Don’t know where to start? Find inspiration in the sample itineraries below and connect with me as your Virtuoso travel advisor to start planning. Soak up the sunshine on a five-day escape, including thrilling waterparks, desert tours, wildlife encounters, and
more. |
No matter how fleeting your Dubai stopover is, there’s always time for shopping, entertainment, and leisure. |
Uncover cultural gems, explore the waterfront, and sleep under the stars on a three-day exploration of Dubai. |
Extraordinary experiences await you
in this mesmerizing city, from stunning architectural wonders to luxurious resorts. |
2. River Cruise Corner - Viking River Cruises This week, I met with my partners from Viking River Cruises, and was catching up on all that was new with them for river cruises - but also their ocean and expedition cruises. Viking's Canada rep, Jordana Botting, and I met over an industry trade show in Ottawa this week, and we spent some time catching up over dinner. Viking offers some terrific river cruises on well-designed
voyages. They have all the amenities of an elegant boutique hotel, and can sail you into the heart of your destination, with new discoveries being a short walk from the ship. Viking knows it's customer base - they have mostly English speaking, well educated
customers who are interested in history, culture and music. Viking offers a great river cruise product, and they deliver a quality product that gives you a terrific European experience. And they have done a tremendous job in their marketing campaigns to raise the profile of river cruising generally. (Have you seen their TV ads on programs like Masterpiece Theatre, CNN, golf programs, and more? They are incredible!)
Viking knows who they are, and they know heir target clientele - and their ads match that. The results of Condé Nast Traveler’s 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards have been announced, and we are delighted to share that Viking was voted #1 for Rivers, #1 for Oceans and #1 for Expeditions. This is the first time a travel company has been voted the best
across all three of these categories simultaneously, and the third consecutive year Viking has won for both rivers and oceans. So, where do they go next? Onwards.
As I always match the brand or cruise line to a client, It's always important for me to let my clients know the benefits and advantages of a Viking cruise - while also tempering that, and letting clients know who Viking is not. Viking strips away the bells and
whistles that other brands offer - for example, there are no bikes onboard, and there are no fitness facilities or wellness classes onboard. Instead of those extras, Viking puts a few more people onboard their river cruises ships, and generally has 190 people onboard one of their longships. (While Uniworld or Tauck might have 113-165 on the same size ships). Viking's ships also have a minimum age of 18 onboard, and only double occupancy cabins (so this is NOT a family product). As a cruise line, they don't particularly cater to solo travelers (they generally
charge 200% for solo travelers, so solos are paying for 2 passengers). And their inclusions are different than other river cruise brands - so you may be paying an amount to get onboard the ship and another amount to get off the ship, if you like cocktails and want to choose optional excursions. But, with those provisos, Viking does offer a terrific value. Their current sale, which expires Nov.30.23, does offer some included international air with reduced deposits of $25 (on select routes and dates, and customizing air or choosing airlines, etc., will have additional charges; and despite lower deposits, Viking will require final
payment sooner than other brands - for example, a $25 deposit for a 2024 cruise on the promo requires final payment by December 15, 2023.). But, if you have seen their ads on Masterpiece Theatre, CNN, and more, you know how appealing their marketing campaigns
are - do you want to go? Here are some offers that are available this month. (Let me know if of itnerest - and I can share t&c and availability, etc.) Rhine Getaway - 8 days, Amsterdam to Basel from $3,199/p Elegant Elbe - 10 days, Berlin to Prague from $4,699/p Romantic Danube - 8
days Budapest to Regensburg from $3,199/p Holland & Belgium -10 days, Amsterdam to Antwerp from $4,299/p Danube Waltz - 8 days, Passau to Budapest from $3,199/p Paris to Swiss Alps -12 days, Paris to Zurich, from $5,399/p

One of my expedition cruise partners has some limited space on their June 27, 2024 - July 8, 2024 to Sable Island,
Cape Breton, Newfoundland, and the Magdalen Islands cruise. My expedition partner was the first ship-based travel company to gain approval from Parks Canada to bring guests ashore in this new National Park Reserve. They are under the strict supervision of Parks Canada staff on their visit because of the ecological sensitivity of this very special place. It is an adventure
of a lifetime! Here is an overview of the itinerary - Day 1: St. John’s, NL, Canada
- Day 2: At Sea
- Day 3–5: Sable Island, NS
- Day 6: The Gully Marine Protected Area
- Day 7: Cape Breton Island & Bird Islands
- Day 8:
Chéticamp
- Day 9: Charlottetown, PEI
- Day 10: Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, QC
- Day 11: Francois, NL
- Day 12: Saint-Pierre, France
Pricing ranges from $4,495 to
$12,795 USD per person based on double occupancy, but there isn't a lot of space left. If you don't know about Sable Island, it is unique because of a combination of factors: Isolation and Geography: It's a remote, narrow sandbar island about 300 kilometers off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada.
Its isolation has led to the evolution of distinct ecosystems and habitats. Wildlife: Sable Island is renowned for its population of wild horses, believed to be descendants of shipwrecked or abandoned animals. It's also home to the world's largest
colony of grey seals. The diverse bird species, including the endemic Ipswich Sparrow, add to its unique ecological richness. Ever-Changing Environment: The island's shifting sand dunes and constant alteration due to weather and ocean currents make
it a dynamic and ever-changing landscape. The challenging weather conditions, including fog and storms, contribute to its unique character. Human History: Sable Island has a fascinating history involving numerous shipwrecks, which led to the
establishment of lifesaving stations. The island has seen various human activities over the centuries, from attempts at colonization to its current designation as a protected reserve. Protected Status: It holds the status of a National Park
Reserve, which helps preserve its delicate ecosystems and unique biodiversity. Combining its wildlife, history, isolation, and constantly changing environment, Sable Island emerges as a truly distinctive and captivating
destination.

4. Wellness Travel Corner - Belize Rainforest and Caribbean Beach Tranquility I had a meeting with my national accounts regional director of Goway this week. Rares Dumitru says "hi," and he wanted me to share this new trip idea with you to visit
Belize for a wellness holiday. Belize is an excellent destination for wellness holidays due to several factors: Natural Beauty: The country boasts stunning natural landscapes, including pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and the famous Belize Barrier Reef. Being surrounded by such natural beauty provides a serene backdrop for relaxation and rejuvenation. Eco-Friendly Resorts: Belize offers eco-friendly accommodations and resorts that focus on sustainability and wellness. Many of these places integrate nature-based activities like yoga, meditation, and spa treatments
into their offerings. Diverse Wellness Activities: From snorkeling and diving in the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea to exploring ancient Mayan ruins or hiking through lush rainforests, Belize offers a wide range of activities that promote physical and mental wellness. Healthy Cuisine: Belizean cuisine often includes fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and organic
produce. Many resorts and restaurants emphasize healthy eating options, providing locally sourced and nutritious meals. Relaxation and Seclusion: Belize offers opportunities for seclusion and tranquility. Whether it's lounging on a secluded beach or unwinding in a jungle retreat, the peaceful atmosphere contributes to a sense of wellness. Cultural Blend: The country's cultural
diversity, with influences from Mayan, Garifuna, Mestizo, and other ethnic groups, adds to the holistic wellness experience. Visitors can engage with various cultural practices and traditions that promote overall well-being. Overall, Belize's combination of natural beauty, eco-friendly accommodations, diverse wellness activities, healthy cuisine, tranquil environments, and cultural richness make it an ideal destination for those seeking a
wellness-oriented holiday. Tranquility, the enjoyment of a stunning natural setting both in the jungle as well as on a stretch of a private white sand beach, make this a Belize holiday to remember for a long time.
