You can accomplish a lot with only 2 nights in Prague.
I got off my fantastic women's river cruise on Uniworld in
Nuremberg (more on that next week), and had a wonderful drive to Czechoslovakia.
We checked into
the pretty Imperial Art Deco hotel, before a quick lunch Next Door at the Cosmopolitan hotel, and a welcome briefing by our local Uniworld host. And then it was off for an evening of music.
We went to the
Prague Opera House, and saw Tosca! It was a magnificent performance in a glorious theatre. The set, orchestra, and soloists all divine. And like the Vienna Opera House I’d visited in April, there was a wonderful in-seat screen to translate the Italian libretto to English.
We capped off the
evening by dining at a local Czech watering hole called La Republica, and had some beer and a sampler plate of the finest duck, sausage, ribs, pork, red cabbage, and bread dumplings. Delish!
A Saturday morning walking tour in Prague to see Prague Castle. Chilly, but absolutely beautiful. Saturday in Prague - after leaving Prague Castle, we started to make our way to the beautiful (and crazy busy) Charles Bridge.
But first Malá
Strana aka the Lesser Town is one of the original historical Prague districts, situated between Prague Castle and Charles Bridge. Charles Bridge always takes your breath away. Then, of course, we walkied the narrow alleys and hidden passages of the Lesser Town, did some shopping, including some amazing hot chocolate.
To finish our
Saturday in Prague, we sat and had a beer as we watched the astronomical clock do its thing with the show at the top of each hour.
I love the cafe
culture in Prague - warming blankets everywhere as a little cool weather doesn’t get people to move inside if there’s sun.
We
walked the beautiful streets, did some shopping on Nerudova street (and I even bought some new colours of Adidas Samba for my girls), had a chimney cake,
popped in to see some Vivaldi Four Seasons playing, and ended up for
dinner at U Glaubiců
- an old traditional Czech restaurant. A perfect last day of our trip in Prague.
